CP and I smooched a little early, following the semi-resonant toll of the second of Alfama's two, always slightly-off cathedral bells. Reckon we shared our final '08 kiss around 23:57... Only a few couples had gathered on the overlook, but twenty or thirty seconds before midnight a crowd emerged from the shadows and began a staggered series of countdowns. No one seemed to know when to begin cheering, but a consensus soon emerged...
