To Live and Shave in LRS: Jacksonville (20 Dec 06) Pix

Hello Again...

Late last year, as some of you may recall, we were forced to cancel a tour of the Midwest and Southeast. We'd been planning the damned thing for months, but things went perilously awry, and we decided it would be better to abort than leave port with a seriously fouled plan of attack. To make it up to our friends in the Satanic Bible Sash, Rat quickly threw a fistful of gigs together. We went out under the tattered but instantly feared Squelchers battle standard, and, blessed be, enjoyed the fuck out of ourselves. We slept in shit, ate crap, and performed in the hallowed pantries and windowsills of an unusual array (even by TLASILA's standards) of D.I.Y. venues: a clothing boutique-cum-16-seater crust-noise bunker in Tallahassee, a brazenly anti-war art gallery in Nashville (hooray!), a bar the size of your mom's garden shed in Orlando, an amenable but almost completely empty mainstream rock club in Charleston (with a gloriously deafening 30,000-watt PA), and one, semi-normal (i.e., pretty cool) Jacksonville watering hole, the august but marbled Yesterday's Social Club...

Brandon from the always intriguing Microwave Windows was kind enough to share a clutch of photos he'd taken during our set; after giving them the once-over, I thought it might be best to prepare composites of the two predominate styles over which he'd established primacy: static portraits of the cabal, and smoky, purportedly digital squiggles with UFOs hovering in the margins...

Many thanks to the MW crew, the staff at Yesterdays, the attendees of the house party afterwards, the owners of the beds we commandeered, and the hapless guests who listened attentively (at least for the first three hours) to Rat's comprehensive PowerPoint overview of the family tree of American Music Club...

Cheers,

TS
